Erich Drobec was born in Vienna in 1919. After completing his medical studies in 1942, Drobec also studied Anthropology. Wilhelm Koppers and Martin Gusinde were among his teachers. Drobec finished his Ph D thesis in 1950.

Throughout the following years Drobec not only worked as a principal consultant but also published a number of books and articles (e.g., in Anthropos) which were pioneering for establishing Medical Anthropology.

Erich Drobec died in Vienna in 2004.
